NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Retired New York Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera helped distribute backpacks and school supplies to children in need Sunday at Refuge of Hope Church in New Rochelle.
Hundreds of people attended the church’s community outreach and enjoyed a bouncy castle for children, free food, drinks and a free health fair sponsored by White Plains Hospital.
Rivera and his wife, Pastor Clara Rivera of Refuge of Hope Church, along with Heavenly Productions Foundation of Armonk and College of New Rochelle President Judith Huntington and her students distributed hundreds of backpacks with school supplies to children in need.
Backpacks and school supplies were donated by the Riveras, Heavenly Productions Foundation and Steiner Sports. Heavenly Production Foundation’s Marcy Stein, Dr. Kathy Reilly Fallon, the Riveras, HPF’s Maria Tedesco and Lori Rocco and College of New Rochelle President Judith Huntington were on hand.
